(Source: Statistics Canada) Released: 2016-08-18 Cattle inventories 13.2 million July 1, 2016 1.3% (annual change) Hog inventories 13.5 million July 1, 2016 1.9% (period-to-period change) Sheep inventories 1.0 million July 1, 2016 -2.8% (annual change) On July 1, Canadian farmers had 13.2 million cattle on their farms, up 1.3% from July 1, 2015. This was the first year-over-year increase since July 2012. However, inventories were 21.8% below their peak level recorded in July 2005.
